How to plan a villa dinner party on the Costa del Sol
A private chef's practical guide to hosting an unforgettable evening — without the stress.
A dinner party in a villa is one of the best ways to celebrate on the Costa del Sol — the setting, the weather, the privacy. The only hard part is usually the food and the hosting. Here's how to plan it well (and how a private chef takes the work off your hands).
1. Start with the occasion and the guest count
Is it a relaxed evening with friends, a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or a bigger celebration? The occasion sets the tone, and the guest count shapes everything else. Intimate groups (2–8) suit a plated multi-course dinner; larger groups (10–20+) often work beautifully as sharing-style menus or a live BBQ.
2. Choose a menu style
A few directions that work brilliantly on the coast: plated fine dining for a special, elegant evening; Mediterranean sharing plates for a sociable, relaxed feel; a live-fire BBQ for groups and terraces; or a tasting menu built around the host's favourites. See example menus for ideas — everything can be tailored to your group.
3. Plan the timings
Costa del Sol evenings run late and warm. A drinks-and-canapés start around sunset, dinner an hour or so later, and dessert unhurried afterwards is a lovely rhythm. With a chef, you don't manage any of it — the courses arrive at the right moment while you enjoy your guests.
4. Sort the drinks
Decide whether you'll supply the wine and drinks yourself (many hosts do) or would like help — I can arrange a sommelier for pairings and dedicated service staff for larger events, on request.
5. Decide what you'll handle vs. what the chef handles
This is where a private chef changes everything. I take care of the menu, the shopping, the cooking and plating, serving your table, and the full clean-up. You handle the guest list, the drinks (if you prefer), and simply showing up. For bigger celebrations I can also coordinate table decoration and service staff so the whole evening is organised.
6. Budgeting
Private-chef menus start from €68 per person including ingredients and service, which for a special evening usually compares very well with a restaurant — with none of the travel, and all the privacy. Larger groups are more favourable per head.
7. Book early in season
Summer and holiday dates fill up. Once you have your date and rough guest count, get in touch — the menu can be finalised later.
